LearnBoost welcomes Cordova Elementary School
Evangelical Christian School, also known as ECS, is a private, non-denominational, evangelical school in Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded in 1965 and joined Association of Christian Schools International in 1984. It hosts grades Pre-K to 12, and comprises campuses spanning Fisherville, Forest Hill, Ridgelake, and Macon.
Mission Statement of Evangelical Christian School:
"The Mission of Evangelical Christian School is to provide a Christ-centered, Biblically-directed education that challenges students to know the Lord Jesus Christ and to develop the vision and practice of excellence in academics, character, leadership, and service to others."
The Fisherville, Forest Hill and Ridgelake campuses each host students from Pre-K through 5th grade. The faculty teach students in a variety of disciplines such as science, math, English and literature, history, and Bible study. Additional course offerings are available, such as art, physical education, music (students learn to play instruments and sing), and Spanish.
At the "tech-lab," students in grades 2 through 5 are taught basic computer skills necessary for high school and middle school, such as Powerpoint presentations and project research. Students are exposed to computers and the Internet in a monitored environment.
Every Thursday, in addition to the daily scheduled activities, the schools hold a chapel service. A speaker delivers a message to the students about a Bible lesson, and often presents an entertaining skit or event or demonstration to keep the children's attention.
The Macon campus includes the middle school and high school campuses. Although they are on the same grounds, the middle school and high school students are taught in separate buildings; they also have separate principals, teachers, and lunch times. The middle school grades consist of grades 6 through 8. These students are taught math, science, Bible, geography, English, literature, and many other subjects.
There has been some talk of moving the Macon campus to make room for a new high school in the Memphis City Schools system. "They have looked at our property. We have not made any agreements. They have not made an offer. We don't even have another location in mind at this time." said Bryan Miller, the school's president.
Evangelical Christian School's mascot is the eagle, with team colors of cardinal and white. ECS is in the Division 2 (private schools) of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. ECS participates in football, soccer, baseball, softball, swimming, track and field, cross country running, tennis, basketball, and golf.
