The Skyhawk Flight, the Deer Valley student newspaper, is currently in its 28th year of publication. It runs eight issues per year, which are distributed on a monthly basis (no issue is published in August or January). The newspaper typically uses 12 pages, though some years, including 2006-2007 and 2007–2008, there are 16 pages. It regularly features news, sports, entertainment, music, feature topics, and a centerspread that goes in depth on one issue affecting students, including light issues like holiday themes, or controversial ones like teen usage of meth.
The Skyhawk Flight is also working towards an online edition of their paper, which will include content that cannot be printed in the physical paper.
The stellar cadets are rewarded with the positions of advanced rank varying in rank and in level of responsibility.
Organized in the Squadron Format, the rest of the command staff is divided up. Other major roles are the Personnel Officer, and the Director of Information Technology. The Unit currently does not possess many ways to interact with the community outside of the school paper. The Drill Teams are what the majority of the public sees. The Drill Teams consist of Armed Drill, Color Guard, and Unarmed Drill.
During class time the unit is divided into flights, essentially a classroom with a commander, sergeant, and guidon. It is therefore further divided into Freshman, Sophomorph/Junior, and the Senior Flight.
The varsity boys soccer finished ninth in state being ousted in the first round of the 06-07 playoffs by Centennial.
