Dublin High School is a four-year public high school located in the East Bay neighborhood of Dublin, California, USA. Dublin High School is one of the schools in the Dublin Unified School District. Dublin's current Mayor, Tim Sbranti, is also a Dublin High School Class of '93 alumni and teacher at the school.
Dublin High School was established in the fall of 1969 as the second high school in Pleasanton, California's Amador Valley High School District and graduated its first senior class in June 1971. After the incorporation of the City of Dublin in 1982 (Dublin, California), Dublin High was annexed and combined with the Murray School District (est. 1856) to form the Dublin Unified School District in 1989. Dublin High has been selected a California Distinguished School four times since 1990 (1990, 1992, 1996, and 2003). Dublin High School was granted a 6-year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) based on a review completed in 2008-9.
Dublin High School's API (Academic Performance Index) in 2009 was 842 (a 44-point increase over 2008), resulting in a California Department of Education statewide rank of 9 (out of 10) and a similar schools rank of 9 (out of 10). In January 2010, Dublin High School was notified of inclusion in Newsweek's 2010 List of America's Top Public High Schools.
At the Oct. 13, 2009 Dublin Unified School District Board of Trustees Regular Meeting, DHS was approved to add a third diploma option - the Advanced Scholar Diploma - to reflect the entrance requirements of top UC and private colleges. The DHS Advanced Scholar Diploma includes requirements for students to complete Advanced Placement (AP) courses, to document community service contributions along with more rigorous academic results expectations.
Dublin High School's Drama Club is currently led by Bryant Hoex (who also runs the drama program at Wells Middle School).
Dublin High School's Music Program is currently led by DHS Music Director Paul D. Everts. In 2009-10, Dublin High School’s Winter Guard won the 2010 Northern California Band Association Championship in their division (Novice B). Dublin High School’s Winter Percussion placed 2nd at the 2010 Northern California Band Association Championship.
As of June 2010, Dublin High School has 26 athletic teams. The Dublin High School Varsity Soccer team won the Diablo Foothill Athletic Section (DFAL) and North Coast Section (NCS) titles in 2010.
73.2% of Dublin voters approved School Bond Measure 'C' in the November 2004 election. School Bond Measure 'C' approved the Dublin Unified School District to issue $184,000,000 in school bonds over time for various school improvement projects. Dublin High School was the primary beneficiary of Bond Measure 'C' with $120,000,000 dedicated to a renewal of the DHS campus (scheduled to complete in 2012, with all academic classrooms rebuilt by January 2011). When completed Dublin High School's will have a capacity for 2,500 students. The Dublin Unified School District was recognized by Green Street Scene in 2009 with a Green Building Award for the use of green technology in the renewal of Dublin High School.
Dublin High School offers 33 extracurricular clubs each led by an advisor. Clubs include American Cancer Society Club, Asian / Pacific Islander Club, California Scholarship Federation, DECA, Drama Club, Red Cross Club, and the Speech Club.
