LearnBoost welcomes James Logan High
In the spring of 2002, students started an initiative with state senator Liz Figueroa to permit state high school students to carry cell phones on campus.  The new Performing Arts Center opened on March 31, 2010.
During the 2008-2009 school year, James Logan High School had an enrollment of 4,104 students (ranging from grades 9-12). Logan's demographics consist of 20% Pacific Islander (which includes Samoan, Tongan and Hawaiian) 30% Asian (20% being Filipino), 25% Latino, 15% White, 11% Black, and 0.4% Native American.
The original campus was established in 1959, east of H Street, with about 1,200 students. In 1992, a two square block property west of H Street, saved for a flower shop, was acquired through eminent domain and added to the campus (which was dubbed the "Logan annex").  During the 2009-2010 school year, James Logan has set up cameras located in hallways, alleys, otuside classrooms and fields to secure the school.
Logan High School has been recognized by a number of academic awards. In 1994 and 1998, it was recognized as a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education. It was one of the first high schools in the nation to be awarded the national award for Excellence in Education. Logan was recognized in 1983 and 1987 as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
The James Logan Forensics team is coached by Tommie Lindsey, who has appeared on Oprah. won the prestigious MacArthur Award, and received many awards from organizations such as the NAACP, and has been the recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant.
Every year, James Logan High School hosts the Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech and Debate Invitational on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend in January bring in Thousands of competitors from more than 50 schools in the San Francisco Bay area region and out-of-state participate in the three-day tournament.
The James Logan Forensics team participates at a CHSSA championship[clarification needed], winning California state championships in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2005. The team has also competed at the National Forensic League Nationals championship, where it has twice earned the distinction of participating at the most elimination rounds (in 1996 and 2005). The Marching Band and Color Guard at James Logan High School has won two WSMBC (Westerns States Marching Band Conference) championships (1997, 1999) and nine Western Band Association championships (2000-2002, 2004-2009). The band and color guard performed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China for the as part of the American Band in venues around Beijing.
James Logan World guard participates in WGI (Winter Guard International) and has won ten consecutive gold medals (1998-2007). They took a year off in 2008 to perform with the band in the Beijing Olympics. They returned to WGI the following year (2009) to achieve second place, and then reclaimed the gold medal in Scholastic World in 2010. Both the James Logan World and Open Guard compete in the California Color Guard Circuit of the WGI, the latter winning the gold in the Scholastic Open class in 2002, 2003, 2004
