Peter Johansen High School is two-story public school located in eastside Modesto, CA. The exterior structure of the school is made up of brick buildings and chain-linked gating, giving it a slight "prison-look" (no other structures surround the school) to those unfamiliar with the area and features an oplympic-size pool, two baseball fields, a softball and soccer field, three indoor fullsize basebasket courts, tennis courts and a football stadium across the street from the campus. The enclosed campus has two bridges crossing the middle and southern portion of the school. Majority of the classrooms are located in 3 buildings, others are located in portables located in southwest corner of the campus. The school colors evolved from Purple/Turqouise/White to the present Purple/Black during the late '90s.
The school opened in the fall of 1992 to only freshmen, somphmores, and juniors. The first graduating class received their diplomas in the spring of 1994. In sports, the school is known to have one of the best pool teams, notably women's water polo and both swim teams.
